General Report on Project Implementation

 

Naya Sawera Vikas Kendra is working intensively for the tribal community, particularly for tribal women and girls in Palkot block of Gumla. In line with the main objective of the project, we have established a well-organized computer training center in the area. The center is fully equipped with 20 laptops, Wi-Fi-enabled communication setup in each laptop, spacious seating arrangements, and solar backup emergency electricity supply. The center is located in the center of the market place, making it easily accessible and safe for all girls who come to study there.

 

In one quarter, we provided a three-month basic computer education course to 140 girls, with four batches of 35 students each. These girls belong to grades 8-12, including graduates and college-going youth, who come from a tribal community where formal education is not as advanced compared to urban areas. Computer literacy is a least priority subject, which has been taught only for the name’s sake. However, basic computer knowledge is a necessity in today’s business world. Without computer knowledge, it is tough to break the vicious cycle of poverty. Computer knowledge is a tool to fight against poverty and develop an understanding of the outer world with the internet.

  • Establish a computerized vocational training center to serve rural girls in the target
  • Empower girls in rural communities with free computer education, including knowledge of essential computer programs such as Microsoft Office, as well as providing technical skills in computer engineering and installation.
  • Improve educational opportunities in rural communities through the establishment of


computer education centers.

  • Establish a computer center specializing in the use of information technology that will support

the education of girls with relevant local content and for intellectual development.

  • Provide targeted IT skills needed for girls to access employment opportunities in the private

and government sectors.

  • Provide adequate all-around education to these girls to make them good citizens and have a better future through computer vocational training.

Activities Undertaken to Date:

  • Established a well-furnished computer center with 20 laptops, furniture, internet, emergency electricity supply, and ventilated classroom with toilet facility at an easily approachable place.
  • Provided all the basic computer knowledge, including practical applications in MS WORD,

PowerPoint presentation, MS Excel, etc.

  • Enabled every girl to access practical use of the computer and to practice during educational

sessions and even in free time.

  • Enabled the computer center with Wi-Fi communication in each laptop, and hence every girl can connect with the outer world and even apply for any job and fill in an examination online
  • Provided many practical sessions to the girls so that they develop full confidence during their

practical application in any government or private job.

  • Given equal importance to theory and practical, with a more inclined approach towards application at our center.
  • Provided life skill training to the girls to encourage their productivity and positive approach

toward life.

  • Encouraged the girls to search for the legal dimensions of any provision provided by the government, such as law for anti-trafficking, , as knowledge is power and the internet is a great source of information.

 

In conclusion, Naya Sawera Vikas Kendra’s computer training center has been successful in providing basic computer knowledge to economically deprived tribal girls. With the establishment of the center, we have been able to bring about a positive change in the community by empowering girls with the necessary skills to access employment opportunities in the private and government sectors, and to break the cycle of poverty.
